Well, the furniture is here. Now all that is left is to get the stocks to match in color.
any advice on the best way to proceed from anyone?
I have more pics, just click the image here, if you are interested.

I'm sure you've answered these questions many times, but I'll throw them out there anyway. Always liked the "FALO" look.
Where can I find fine looking wood for my next project?
What are the differences between the "Izzy heavy" and "Izzy light" buttstocks?
Are those heavy barrel hand guards with spacers?
Where'd the butt plate come from?
Thanks,
Doug

Doug, I got the "Front" wood form GPC, the "Rear" wood from Hesse. I don't know the diff between HB and LB buttstocks.
Yes, the spacers (thanx, FALShot!) are on the weapon.
I got the Butt plate kit from Hesse as well.

Love that Izzy wood!
But man oh man...everytime I see that yellow color...blech.
Here's what I did to mine...mainly because I didn't like the yellow color, but also because the HG didn't match the stock.

Will the FALO handguards fit the L1A1 at all? Is there modification necessary? What's this about spacers? Also, what parts did you have to order from GPC? I went to their site and couldn't find the handguards listed. Obviously you have to order them in parts...but what parts? I know this is alot of questions but I am not very well versed in the FAL on a builder's level. Just a user.

Stimpsonjcat,
Good lookign rifle!
I happen to like the "yellow" and actually want the butt to match it. I'm also doing a LB, and plan to make the wood dark like yours.
Zoff12,
I do not think the FALO handguards will fit the L1A1 without some mods. The screw holes in the front didn't line up on my L1A1 when I tried to fit them.
The "spacers" mentioned sit over the gas tube and prevent the wood grips from "Clamshelling" when tightly gripped. If you look at my pic, you'll see two small "rises" over the gas tube area.. that is the two spacers mentioned.
If you want to get parts from GPC, it is stil best to order from their catalog. Bite the bullet and buy one.. you will not regret it! It is an EXCELLENT resource with lots of firearms diagrams.

Sarco sells both HB HGs and BSs, either separately or in sets.
Izzy HB buttstock has the folding buttplate, standard Izzy uses a steel nonfolding buttplate. The buttplates do not interchange between the buttstocks.
Very nice rifle but why 2 spacers? Izzy standard HGs use 2 spacers but HB uses just one at rear position where the HG liners are notched.

Wood color looks identical to the wood hanguards on the Galil ARM.
Anyone know what type of wood the Israelis used on these rifles? I've always been curious.

Well.. for aesthetic purposes only. IMHO, it simply looks better.

Very nice! http://www.fnfal.com/forums/eek.gif
I LOVE the yellowish color! Good thing I kept it on all of mine. The only thing I didn't want in terms of color was for it to match the Eastern European AK color, which it doesn't.
I don't know wood, but a local shop in Portland, Oregon that caters to custom wood workers told me all my Israeli furniture was European Beech. (a hard wood)
By the way, from what I can see of those spacers, they look MARVELLOUS, where did you get them?! ... http://www.fnfal.com/forums/smile.gif

WOW what a great job. Were did you get that barrel and what is the length.
I agree the color of the wood needs to change, I am going to experiment and try a flat black metalwork with a dark greenish/grey handgaurds and buttstock.

Thanx Thomas.. The barrel is the one that came on it. I chopped it and put the Smith brake on it.

Hey Keith:
You sure did put the spacers to good use! Not to upstage your thread, but I wish I had access to a digital camera so I could post some pictures of the rifles I just got back from George Gouger. One of them, (MY SAR4800 Imbel/FAL in .223) is finished off in Israeli furniture and has a Smith muzzle break too. (I had to do a double take and look at the mag well)
Once again, very impressive Keith!
