....for a new barrell to "calm down?"

I've heard breaking in a new barrel can take a few hundred rounds to "calm down" - for groups to tighten down to acceptable sizes.

is this true?

How many rounds?

Tell me bout yer experiences.

Thanx.

Just so someoe will answer your ques tion. The most common that is talked about is 200. I like to clean the bore often at first and gradually spaceing is out as the barrel breaks in.

at the risk of being labled a smart alek

it all depends on how "cleanly" the barrel was manufactured.................... the CLEANER the rifling is, the less break in.

so it could take only a few or several hundred

you might also consider that many barrels will shoot tighter when slightly dirty.
