View Full Version : SAR-48 Original Configurations

I just bought a used SAR-48 and took it apart to check it out. Neither the bolt, nor the bolt carrier were numbered. Was this normal for the Springfield Armory SAR-48 FALs? Since it was built by Imbel, I figured that it would have a numbered bolt and bolt carrier like all other Imbels. Anyone else have an unmolested SAR-48 that can verify whether they had numbered bolts or not?

Sorry to add on to the post but I have a question about the SAR48 also.
Did the original SAR48 paras have lightening cuts on the para hinge block?
Also what type of gas plug did original SAR-48s have?
Thanks in addition.

Just went and checked mine, but no numbers on anything but the upper, and that was hidden by the scope mount so I can't even give you the serial range. The rifle is marked SAR-48-Match, and I think that all of them were marked that way even thought there was nothing special about them.

My SAR-4800 in 223 has the barrel, bolt and bolt carrier numbered to the gun.

My SAR-48 gas plug looks like a standard Imbel variant. Marked with an "A" on one side (and has a groove from front to back) and a "G" on the other side, without a groove. Standard button you have to push in to rotate the plug.
