I have one in hand from DSA. I could not resist a new barrel for 95 bucks. Has anyone gone to the range with one yet. What is the accuracy like?

What are the general opinions on chrome lining? is it all that great?

I have one of the Argentine chrome lined barrels that I bought from Sarco and it is very good on accuracy well as far as these old eyes can see anyway and I have nothing but good things to say about these barrels.HTH

I don't have any personal experience with them, but when they hit the market I asked Gunplummer his opinion of them and he said that they were good stuff. If ya buy one, make sure that you specify the proper height of the gas block. some have low blocks, some have high. You have to have the proper one to match your rear sight.

I recorded a 2.25" 5 shot group with iron
sights and RG ammo at 100 yds withone. I
was pleased :)

The open ear gas blocks require the high rear sight, vs the closed ear which take the garden variety low ones.

I plan to use an L1A1 folder rear sight with my open block Argy I just bought from DSA. Gotta love a NEW Cr lined barrel for under $100.

You could opt for Izzy sights front and rear with the open ear gas block. (My next project)

Israeli FAL = Izzy. They are a little taller to compensate for the taller gas block.

Anyone else have any opinions on these barrels? Or would a used excellent DSA STG-58 barrel perform better?

I have built a total of four rifles with the argy barrels and am pleased with the quality so far. However, I have a couple of issues that I am still trying to figure out. First, I put the argy barrel on a century receiver and it bottomed out...OK, I thought, it must be the reciever (after all it's a century, right?) Well, I put the same barrel on an Imbel GL, same issue, times at about 9:30 and bottoms out. I tried all seven barrels I had in stock and out of those, four of them bottomed out on the Imbel, century, and coonan. I just purchased a couple of DSA receivers (from the group buy; a type II and type III) and guess what, same problem.

So, to fix this bottoming out problem I had to shave some material off the barrel to get it to time to 11:00.

As for accuracy, well some have been good some have been... not so good.

Overall apperence is a nice medium grey park with few/no marks. The crome lining is even and smoth. Gas blocks appear to be pressed on and straight. Only one of the barrels I have seems to have a bent front sight ear.

I just got around to shooting a build with all new parts with the exception of the lower internals, that I finished in May. I used a closed eared Argentine Barrel and Free Floated it with a DSA guard and a DSA brake. This thing shot a 5 shot 5/8" pattern at 50 yards, Open Site, and my eyes can't see past 25 yards. An hour later I shot 1 round and hit 1/4" low and on center. I didn't shoot it much for I was playing with two other STG's. Next I will put a scope on it. I think I will be happy with this one.

I've also barreled 4 of these and all set up at approx. 10:45 but all were on New Gear Logo Imbels .

All of my barrels are open ear and all came from CDNN. Perhaps these are a different lot. I don't know, but it's odd.

CDNN had closed ear gas block barrels last year for around $100.00 and DSA was a bit less. Now of course there are mostly open ear gas blocks.
Here is a ref to the past.

I bought one of the open ear barrels from CDNN and was not pleased with it. The first thing I noticed was that there were some gouge marks in the chrome lining about 1/2 inch from the muzzle. I had to lob off part of the barrel and recrown in a lathe to get rid of it.

The second thing I noticed was that this barrel does not give me the accuracy I have come to expect from my STG-58 barrels. I have not found any ammo that groups well in it, factory OR handload.

I'm not happy with it. For less money I could have bought an excellent condition STG barrel and been better off.

Was yours from the past few months? I got one once that had a loose gas block. But I never had a bad bore yet [ knock on wood].

No. I got mine over a year and a half ago. Gas block was tight. It just had that boogered up place in the bore and it won't shoot.

Maybe I'm too picky.

I think I'll just sell the whole rifle. It's my least favorite.

I have two that I'm building on now.

The first one was bought in June. Putting on a Coonan, it timed at 11:30. I've had to order a L1A1 washer to get it to time. When built, I'll post some accuracy.

The second is alos going on a Coonan. I has timed perfect.

The only down side is the threaded muzzle. The thread area is stepped and most MB have a gap past the threads that require a sleeve to make it 100% sturdy.

I have a tall Izzy sight for one, but I have a Para A@ sight for the other. I hope the Para works.

What are the general opinions on chrome lining? is it all that great? I got one from DSA back in Feb. Put it on an IMBEL so that I could have a bipod. Standard gas block and short gas tube. It will break a clay bird at 200 meters about half the time. Finish was excellent, bore was excellent, the chrome cleans very easily.
