Received my 50 liter patrol pack from TWS. They are making some outstanding products. Heavy cordura cloth, 2 side pouches, internal metal frame, padded shoulder straps, sternum support strap, padded belt strap. bottom, double zip flap for access to both ends. external pouch with mesh compartment to air wet clothes. Straps at top and bottom to secure sleeping mats and sleeping bags.
This makes an excellent patrol pack, very comfortable over webbing or vests. 50 liter capacity, not quite recon size, not quite full size bergen,....some where in the middle. I'll get a M-83 or Brit bergen for my ALICE replacement rucksack.

Now, when looking for surplus SADF sleeping bags for warm weather what choices do we have? Bundeswehr sleeping sacks?

As far as sleeping bags go, I'm very happy with the current USMC issue bag. It is actually 3 parts, a cold weather bag, warm weather bag, and gortex cover (Camo). You can use all 3 together in cold climates or any combination... in warm weather I usually just use the gortex cover and a poncho liner. I saw that Jon Coppenbarger has sold them in the past very cheap... they cost $400 or so to the troops and he had ones for around $150 or $200 if I remember right (don't quote me).
