$5 mags from TAPCO (metric AND inch!!!!)

Went to TAPCO last week to pick up an L1A1 kit (wow - thanks again to Bill and Mike for their hospitality) and couldn't pass up their new $5 mag deal (5 mags and charger for $24.99, both inch and metric). I got ten of the inch mags (now no dilemma over which type receiver to put on my L1A1 kit) and 5 of the metrics (you can never have too many) and they all look great! I see no dents or dings whatsoever, and only slight handling marks. You can tell they've been used, but they have in no way been abused. I would assume the inch pattern came from Austrailia. The metrics have no holes in the back (like the Austrians). Does anybody know how to tell where these are from?

Er, no, not really. I wrote them and told them I was coming into their area from out of state, and could I PLEASE stop by and pick up a kit (knowing that all their G1 and L1A1 kits were spoken for or gone) - maybe we could piece together one from parts laying around.......
Well, that's exactly what we did. Mike and his partner in crime brought out a bunch of "reject" parts which we went through, sorting and mixing and matching until we had a kit (I think, I still haven't done a full inventory). It's amazing what you can find in a bunch of rejects - this kit's internals look better than my STG kit, the wood is useable (albeit dented and scratched), and a re-finish later, it'll look like new! I can see why they wouldn't want to do this all the time (it took us over an hour) - I guess I just caught them in a good mood.....

Thanks for the tip! I picked up 1/2 dz metric mags at the N. Atlanta gs two weeks ago that were really nice and wished that I had gotten a few more.

I ordered 10 inch. About 1/2 look almost new, 1/2 have about 60% finish remaining. All in all, I'm VERY pleased. For $5, it's a definite bargain. I also got 10 of their CETME mags (went 1/2 on a 20 order with a bud)...NEW! Depending on how frisky I'm feeling, I might put in another order this week if they have any left..there's some other odds & ends I need.

Just order 20 of those Cetme 20rd mags for $4.99 each! Looks like I'll have to get that rifle after all! :D

I bought their 5 metric mags for $24.99 and of the 5, only 2 came usuable. The top lips on three were smashed. I had to bend, pry, and peen them to make them usuable. I will only buy new mags for my FAL, too risky and too much work to buy used, when new mags are $8-10$.

Have you called them about the mags, Im sure they will take care of it for you. As far as only using new mags, I wouldnt base my decision on only one incedent, I have always bought the used mags whether it be from tapco or dsa and have never had a problems with them. Also anyone interested in the $5 inch mags if you order isnt in then its all over just got an email saying that they have my order on back order and when they get these mags in thats all they will have, and not to bother with trying to get more of them.

I got my mags (metric) today and they look great!! Not new, scuffed a bit, but not bad enough to be worth going thru the park tank!!

I ordered 15 metric mags from TAPCO and they were all in excellent shape. Some look like they were hardly used. None will require any sort of refinishing. THANKS TAPCO!

Got a metric 5-pack with loader from Tapco today. 4 Austrian: 2 might be mistaken for new if not for wear on the followers; the other 2 are equivalent to the best of the $5.00 Austrians I got from DSA last Spring. The fifth one is kind of beat and I can't figure out where that came from. Overall average is better than expected, though. . Great deal!

I received the Oct. 10 Shotgun News last Sat. advertising both types of mags for $5 each. I called Tapco Monday to order 10 of each and was told the price went up to $10/each. I guess I'll call DSA tomorrow and get them there.
