I pulled apart my latest Fal build and noticed that the gas tube pin had gouged the gas tube threadsand was causing my piston to bind. I have never had this problem before and was wondering: Do I really need the Gas tube pin or is there a easier solution?

Can you clean the gouge up with a file? If you can then you MIGHT be good to go. There has to be a reason the pin gouged the tube though. Did you try to remove it with out taking the pin out?

Pics would help also. Gas tubes are pretty cheap though.

The gas tube is supposed to be "indexed" into the gas block... there is a correct position to which you should rotate the tube, and all others leave the tube "out of time". This will occur when the gas passage slot in the threaded end of the tube is facing straight up... at the same time, there is a clearance flat at the bottom of the tube to pass the gas tube pin. It sounds like you had your tube out of time, which not only would allow the pin to gouge your tube threads, it would also affect the operation of your gas system.
