Got my new DSA STG 58 standard rifle out to the range today. Just thought I'd post my experience for folks who might be considering one of these.
The rifle is very nicely finished (got a couple of compliments at the range on its appearance) It's much much nicer than the century rifles I've seen at the gunshows. The only flaw I can find is a small scratch on the bottom of the buttstock forward of the swivel. I
The rifle shot perfectly aligned left-right out of the box, but it required a lot of revolutions of the front sight to bring the group up to print a bit high at 100 yds. Out of the box it was printing 8" low at 25 yds
100 yard groups were about 5" on average with portugese surplus and about 2.5" with M852 (usgi 7.62x51 match). I shot everything off the bench. I didn't have time to try shooting from the various HP positions. Kind of curious whether it's possible to sling up on this rifle w/o moving the point of aim over to the next county!
The light was pretty dim, so my feeling is that the rifle will do a bit better in the right conditions.
Ejection was very brisk with empties stacking up about 10' to the right from the bench. Ejection and bolt lockback didn't seem to be sensitive to the gas setting. I ended up setting it on 7. Perhaps something isn't quite right with the gas system.
I've heard others gripe about the stock/sight alignment on these rifles, but I had no real problem snuggling up to it.
All in all, this seems to be a very nice rifle. Worth the money and the wait.
