I just shot my FAL that was rebarrelled and it performed excellent.
For a rifle with battle sights and ball ammo it impressed the hell out of me.

I used SA 7.62 circa 1979.

I took one apart and heres whats in it:

143.8 grain FMJBT bullet
40 grains of an extruded type of powder
The case weighs in at 183 grains.
Avereage LC case is 182 grains.

My question is this:
Anyone have a load that replicates this ?
I'm not interested in 168 gr. HPBT match stuff, I reload that stuff all day long for my M1A.

I'm looking for something real close, I can work out the bugs and tune it in for my piece.

No. But many have been working on a Aussie load to duplicate AFF91

Starting data.

LC or Aussie cases. Standard primer. 43 Gr H4895 (same as AFF91)147 Fn bullets. I do not have it in front of me but this was spot on for FPS against AFF91 when we tested it.

The R1M1 SA is surprisingly accurate for me also, though not as clean shooting as Aussie (no biggie).

Take your 168 grain load and sub in a 150 FMJBT Hornady. Tweak the velocity to 2,675 - 2,700 FPS to match the SA in a 21" barrel. It that doesn't work, then 43 grains of Varget, CCI #34 primer, and 2.788" COL in surplus brass is another one that's very close to Aussie.

I needed a load for a BMG I took to an MG shoot last fall. I was using SA ball and wanted a tracer every 5th. The closest load I could come up with, with what I had was 39.5gr H322/M25/LC98/WinLRP. It matched muzzle velo just about perfect and POI was acceptably close also.

Not the same I know, but maybe it'll help

If I have to reach deep into my foggy memory, the South African powder they used is similar to IMR3031. I would just use Varget or RL15 in LC cases, it burns a lot cleaner than most, and you can never go wrong with either.
