I know it's not a Fal! But!
My 49/56 arrived today from SOG.
It came with 4-New Mags. A bunch of goodies all New.
The Rifle, a CIA import is also NEW!
This thing is perfect! I can't see were it was shot at all.
Then I stuck a Pipe cleaner in the gas tube and removed only a little oil and the tell tail sign of Test Firing only.
SOG and CAI both get my vote after this buy.
I just thought the good folks at the Files should know of this Quality item. Thank Goodness I already have a thousand rnds of 7.5 in my closet.

I do have to update my first post!
After taking the Mas apart!
The Barrel is in Pristene [if I spelled it correctly] condition.
The numbers do not match, only the receiver and receiver cover match. and the bolt carrier is not numbered.
This gun has been reconditioned!
All Parts are still New, or at least in excellent condition, they are just not matching.
The Hammer, Trigger etc. everything in the lower receiver and the Wood is all unused!
This gun was advertized as in Excellent condition, And it still is.
It's not a collector's item, but if it shoots as good as it looks. I'll be happy!
I will take it to the range Saturday, with updates!

SOG has a special this month. MAS 49/56 for $209. $10 more for handpicked.

You'd better grab a few at that price. It must be a "special".
The price in the Oct 10 and Nov 10 Shotgun News and on their web sight is $239.95 for One and $229,95 for two. Sounds like a great price. The only thing you should question is that the one at the above price did not need a Hand Pic.
Good Luck here's a pic of the SOG 49/56

Man, I think these are cool guns...
but where do you find ammo that is affordable? I was looking at some at a gun show. Nice. I'd still get one if I had the $$ availble right now. Maybe.

Luckily I have quite a bit of ammo for it.
You are correct though, the ammo is getting more expensive. But you can still find it if you search a bit.

Hi Guys;
I bought mine from SOG also!
WG&A has the 7.5 for $49.99 for 100 rds.
I know thats expensive but I only shoot it around 20-30 times everytime I take it to the range. That should last me awhile & hopefully cheeper ammo will turn up :D
Yes, I think they are cool lookin also
Good luck with it.
Oh, it takes down very similiar to my FN-49. Did you notice there is NO piston? It just uses the gases to push back the Bolt ;)

That is one nice looking rifle. The wood looks brand new in the pic. I'll have to jump on one of those.

Let us know when you take it to the range.

CAI has extractors for $6 and gas pistons for $19.
And Faltitude
Yes! the wood does look new,it probably is! It's been sucking up Tong Oil for two days. The same goes for all of the internals in the lower receiver. The hammer is finely honed and has no marks from the firing pin on it.
Inside the lower receiver is spotless.
This rebuild was done by people that cared. This is not a US redo! YET!
Faltitude, if SOG is starting to sell these with hand pic, which is not good! you might call CAI instead or have your FFL get one through there.
And if it helps any! I'm not betraying the Fal Files with my 49/56 My next Rifle "Will" be an Almost all New, 99%, piece by piece, time consuming ,Izzy Light Barrel!!!

You can make really excellent hand-loads for this rifle using once-fired 6.5 mm Swede brass that is neck-sized for .30 cal. Then use moderate pressure (not more than 47,000 psi) .308 Win. loading data for whatever bullet weight you use - I like 150 grain FMJ surplus bullets. Gives excellent accuracy and consistent ejection. I like this better than the corrosive or semi-corrosive milsurp 7.5 stuff you buy.

I want one! but someone at s.o.g. told me they can't ship to california. I think that person is wrong because mas 49/56 does not have a pistol grip and it comes with a ten round magazine. What do you guys think?

gw11
November 19, 2001, 19:40
asindero, I think it has something to do with the Bayonet an the grenade launcher.
I believe the SKS is also banned in Kalif. same stuff as far as I can see. Your not alone, we're all next!

toaster, 99.9% of the good people at the Fal Files take sloppy seconds, so to speak! So who am I to dispute my or anyone else's choices?
