I have some varget and reloader 15, and Id like to make up some nice accurate ammo for shooting at 200-300 yards, for plate shooting matches. Reaon being I dont have any decent .223 other than wolf..

I have 52gr SMK's and some 55gr new milspec bullets.

Anyone have any good loads?

Varget and RL15 are both better suited to heavier bullets, but they will work OK if you don't expect max velocities. I would start at 26 grains with either powder and 55 grain bullets. This should give you a nice, accurate, clean burning load.

I have used Accurate 2230 and 2460 with good results, also W740, BLC2 and H335. Some of the new powders I hear are pretty good, Tacshot, Ramshot?, but no experience with them. Then there is the old standby, 4895, that meters reasonably well and is a good in between powder for both light and heavy bullets.

If you already have Varget and/or RL15, use them. You might not get the screaming velocities out of them that you can out of faster powders, but they will be better for your barrel, burns very clean, and in the accuracy department they are hard to beat.

Haven't loaded light bullets in a few years but used H-335 with great results. Also knew some who used Benchmark and did very well. I agree that if you already have varget on hand, try it out first. Varget has been a great performer for me in the .223.
