View Full Version : wood stock stg58 kit
I have a very nice stg58 kit with wood butt stock that I want to auction off here. The serial numbers match on all components (in the 45XXX range). The starting price is $400 with incremental bids of $5. The last post by 9:00 PM on May 1 gets it. The buyer can elect to purchase a 140 round battle pack of South African 308 surplus for $35 is he or she chooses. Your bid should reflect your willingness to pay for the kit, not the kit + the ammo. The ammo is extra. Buyer pays all shipping. I hope these photos turn out OK, I'm not the best photographer. I can take additional ones and send them if you're looking for something specific.
I'm an idiot -- I can't seem to be able to post pics right now. Is the size limit really 0.1 megs?? Once I figure it out I'll extend the deadline to a week. Sorry -- I have two little kids (1 and 3) and I don't get much done very fast (sleep, rest, shooting ..).
I had to shrink these to post them. If you're interested, I can send better ones.
OK, I'll try to get some better pics later this week. Last post before 9:00 PM on Tuesday May 2 gets it.

(in the 45XXX range)
I think that means that this one was FN made, not Steyr.
EDIT: THIS IS NOT A BAD THING! I know a lot of people like the Steyr's, but having a FN made STG-58 is just plain cool. When I bought my kit at Knob Creek there were 5 kits on the table, 4 Steyr's and 1 FN, I bought the FN. It has the same markings and proofs on the barrel as my G1.
I took the handguards off to take a look (I love tinkering with fal kits). The barrel says
"Kal 7.62 m/m"
Then further down close to the receiver stub are three tiny proof marks. Going from left to right, they appear to be:
1. a small solid rectangle
2. a really hard to make out symbol that appears to be "o>" that is underlined
3. the numbers "60", must be date of manufacture
The exact same markings are on the receiver stub. I have another kit with serial numbers in the high 24XXX that has the same markings, except it appears to have been made in 1959.
These guns are older than me and have aged much better.
Anyone have info, I'd be interested to know as well. Thanks for looking, Peter.

Those are FN Belgian proof marks. The two digit number is the year of manufacture. The kit I mentioned above is sn 61485 and dated 62.
Ostrobothnian has stepped out so we're back to $400 with mhobtr currently in the lead.
If you can't afford this, please don't bid on it.
One last picture. I rubbed the serial numbers with some lithium grease to make them clearly visible. This ends tonight May 1 at 9:00 eastern time.

I am still here and still in.
Does the barrel have a serial number as well?
Yes, and it matches the numbers on the other three components.

So very tempting, somebody's going to get a nice kit.

It is tempting. Even to someone who doesn't know squat about FAL's!!! I wish I knew more, otherwise I'd jump on it.

Is it over:?
OK mhobtr -- its yours. You have a really good deal IMO. There's a similar kit at gunpoker that has a $450 bid on it. Darkearth sold some of these kits from the same source at falfiles for $450 last month and they were not nearly as nice (they all came from my bro). You will not be disappointed with this kit -- its really primo. But if you are, I'll refund your money and pay return shipping. Frankly, I had a hard time selling it. These will be gone forever soon. PM me or send me an e-mail and we can arrange terms. Thanks for your interest, look forward to talking to you -- Peter

Anyone want the other one? Exactly the same except with plastic stock. $400+ shipping.

I'll take it, if it is an FN, matching number in the same condition. I can send a USPS MO.
