can anyone tell me which ar 308 rifle takes the fal mags? i'm gonna sell one of my 223 rifles to buy a 308. I was told that i should look for one that takes these mags because of the price and availability. Is this true? also looking at a panther arms.

If you can find one of the discontinued Bushmaster BAR-10's, they take FAL mags. The not yet available Rock River Arms LAR(?)-10 is an improved version of the Bushy and also takes FAL mags.

I'd suggest you take a look over on ARFCOM about the Bushmaster and DPMS rifles in .308. There is a specific forum for "AR Variants."

There have been persistent rumors of bolt breakage on the Bushies. I can't vouch for the veracity of these rumors. Supposedly, the Bushmaster BAR 10 was designed by Rock River. The fact that RRA is redesigning it prevents me from picking up a Bushie. I think that the big issue discussed deals with the rotating bolt of the RRA/Bushie design being somewhat incompatible with the geometry of FAL magazines.

The DPMS rifles seem to get good reviews. The issues I have noticed is that they are relatively heavy and are chambered on the tight end (.308) rather than the more loose tolerances on FALs (7.62 NATO). Also, magazines aren't cheap.

I hope you find something that you like.

I'd like an AR-10 someday in .260 Remington.

The ballistics of the 6.5mm bullet are out of this world.

You'll easily have a 1000 yard + rifle.
