Tossed them in a tray and covered them with turpentine to remove the asphaltum sealant from the shanks. Soaked them for an hour or so, then drained and air dried. Tossed them into the tumbler for a couple of hours to remove oxidation from them.

The fun part started when I took them out of the tumbler. I was grabbing a handful at a time and tossing them into a large plastic bag when I noticed one that looked different. D'oh! A tracer! And another. And another. And... what the hell is THAT? In the end I pulled out fifteen bullets that weren't what they were supposed to be. Five tracers, and the rest are unidentified .308" FMJBT bullets without cannelure. I haven't weighed them yet.

Hmmm............... Now I gotta COUNT the remainder to see how many M80 FMJBT bullets there really are.:(

Terry,

I think if you weigh those ten unidentified bullets without a cannelure, you will find that they weigh between 173 and 174 grains. They are M118 bullets.

Yeah, I expect they are M118 bullets. I'll find a use for them, no doubt. :D

I found the same thing (tracers and 174 FMJBT) here and there in my last order from HiTechAmmo.

Still shooting those with great results. (the 147's)

They're out of em. So is Hi-tech. Only place I know of is the CBC bullets from Pat's reloading and I heard they aren't very accurate.
