Australian .308

Was thinking about selling a case of Aussie .308. Blister packed, if I remember right off the top of my head, 800 rounds?

Will I be able to tell year of mfg from outside of box?

It is still sealed, never opened.

What is a fair (not insane market) price for this?

I hate, what I consider, ripping people off, so if I can make a deal with someone I will, but what approx value should I be looking for.

How does something like $300 sound?

Let me know if everyone thinks this is a decent value considering market trends. Please NO pm's, im not at home and have no way to ship this out. I will post a WTS in the marketplace come time.

Sounds just a little bit low. A 200 round can with the strippers and bandos just went for >$88 ($440/K) on GB. If it's the Boxer primed - '92 and later? - it worth more IMHO.

So if it's Berdan $300 is probably a fair price, if boxer maybe $350 ish?

Im also accounting that shipping will be something like $30, so add that to come up with a final price.

Maybe i'll just auction it off..... let the market dictate price

Aussie is for some reason unknown to me the most prized Mil surp. it commands a higher price.
I personally prefer port.

I do not like the way ammo prices have swelled and feel if we all refuse to buy at these prices they will lower the prices.

I guess that makes me kinda an ammo hypocrite since I did just sell 800 rds at $.45 per rd but I can still sleep at night.

If they want to buy I figure sell it to them!

IMO, Port was long the "gold standard" of 7.62x51 surplus. However, (IMO) the Aussie is held in higher regard because it is newer; 10-15 years newer than the average case of Port. Both perform identically in my M1As and FALs. And the boxer primed version of the Aussie makes it even more desirable, IMO.

Im just one of those people that I don't like how extreme the prices go. I think im going to auction it here on the FalFiles and let the market dictate. If guys want to pay big bucks... thats there call.

Aussie is more accurate (in my Win mod 70 ) than any other mil surp I have ever shot....at least compared to anything I've shot lately.....(I seem to remember some Hirtenberger that would drill em).

Plus, Aussie is loaded with stick powder....much cleaner burning in my guns.

I would pay a premium for it............ if I was running low.

You will have to open the case and look inside one of the cardboard boxes to find the year on the blister pak Aussie. AFF 91 and (faik) ADF 92 is boxer. ''88 is also reported to be boxer. I'm shooting and reloading AFF 91 but have not shot any of the 92 yet. It's great brass, btw and "seems" to be holding up better than LC thru three loadings (the most I have on any so far).

If boxer it's worth as much as new Federal American Eagle (IMO), which would be a lower quality replacement. Don't know if you can sell it for that much, but what would you have to pay to replace it?

I think I should add that my 83 Aussie which I didn't sell is very accurate it was the 87 & 88 headstamps that performed just average in my rifles.

'83 has performed well for me also with ~8 cases of it down range. My "perception", with limited testing, is the '87 is a little better. I also find that the ability of the shooter (me) on any given day may have more to do with those perceptions than anything else. I had a very so-so day shooting some '89 once and therefore have bad vibes about that year.
