Hypothetically speaking of course:

-pull the bullet from Czech 147gr 7.62x54r

-cut the bullet in a lathe and remove about 25gr by shortening it from the base

-reload it into x39

At the base, the jacket will be flush with the core. Is there any reason this is a bad idea?

As for accuracy, minute of bad guy is good enough. Why? Hypothetically speaking...

You must have a lot of spare time. Why don't you just load the 147s the way they are. Most reloading manuals show a load for the x39 to aorund 150 grains. You will also have exposed soft lead at the base of every boolit if cut off projo is used. Don't really know if that will be an issue, but it can't be that good I wouldn't think. Just seems like a lot of work to me. Either that or get a FAL, the 147s are a standard issue diet for these.

I can't see any possible advantage or gain in doing such a tedious labor intensive process. Please explain your logic for such an endeavor.

I would be using them in an AK.

As for the why, lets just say that it's all about the material at the core.

Well, Nightops, ya caught me with my pants down I guess. Forgot about the reference from what they were pulled, only that they were 147 grainers. A swift plunge through a .308 H&I die would remedy that. He 'splained why in his last post -
" lets just say that it's all about the material at the core"

and I still don't get it. The cold outside today has my brain cells moving a bit too slow I guess.

Thanks for calling me on that

Not trying to call you out on the .308/.311 stuff, just wanted to make sure I had it right in my head

Never mind. The amount of labor involved is crazy. I'll just load the 147s.

If you shorten a bullet, you're changing the profile entirely - the ballistic coefficient will be all f****ed-up and it's not going to fly as designed.
