I know its being used, but I had to ask the stupid question to get people to read. LOL

Any way what powders have you used and where do you get load data for using it.

Thanks
Jim

What surp. powder do you have? I have noticed that gibrass.com has "use xxxx powder data" in their descriptions. http://www.gibrass.com/gunpowder.html

If that's no help, I would use:

BL-C(2) data for WCC846
H4895 data for SMP4895

H4895 is a bit hotter than IMR4895, so using the H data is the safer bet.

***IF I'M MY INFORMATION IS WRONG, SOMEONE PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I WOULD HATE FOR SOMEONE TO GET HURT DUE TO BAD ADVISE***

As always, start with minimum load data and work up looking for pressure signs. yada, yada, yada...

I'm looking at some online: WC846. Looks like a good price, $85 for 8lbs. Thats much better than I am seeing locally for the IMR4895 that I've been using.

Good advice from Daschnoz.

Even though I've been reloading for over 30 yrs. I've only used surplus 4895 to date. It was given to me by a trusted friend who bought it years ago. There was no data with it. I just used H4895 data. You have to remember that even though H4895 was the original 4895 sold to reloaders, it was originally just surplus Dupont IMR 4895 from WWII.

I recieved some WC846 last week from Pat's Reloading http://www.patsreloading.com/patsrel/whatsnew.htm. It had this on the label: "Work up all loading data by reducing BLC-2 starting data by 10%."

I don't know where you're getting your WC 846 but it will probably have something on the label. Hope this helps.

Jim,

Have been loading surplus IMR4895 in LC M118 brass for several years now in my FN SPR. Here is my load:

LC M118 brass
Lapua 170gr D46 bullet
Win WLR primer
42.2gr IMR4895
2.840" OAL
2775fps

Shoots pretty good.

Nice group. I have had good luck with surplus 4895 in my 1903a3 30-06. My Garand prefers IMR4064 (darn it).

I went back to my gunsmith yesterday with my FAL to get the barrel timing corrected.

While there, he had the military TM's on loading small arms ammo. They didn't have different loads, just had load for WC 846 using a 147 gr FMJ, it is supposed to be loaded at 46 gr. Much higher than I would be starting at, but it did match the loads I read online for the BL-C(2).

Don, what range was that group at?

I have been using some powder I recovered from Albanian 7.62x54R. Very similar to 4895, and the cost was right. Shame the ammo is gone.

Jimbo10,

100 yards at my local range. The stock is one of only 12 pre-production stocks that Kelly sent out for testing and evaluation, and eventually became the A5. After testing and evaluation, I wrote a review on the stock that is still up on Sniper Country and Sniper's Hide.

Surp or PD powder is about all I use and I work up all my own data unless it just happens to come with some.
