That's one heck of a nice kit gun!

It depends on how you define 'KIT' Buff. If all the parts were new and un used, then it's as much a kit gun as anything that ever left the factory. Assembled here, assembled there.... does it matter? New is new.
Seems to me the important question would be more WHEN was it assembled. If it was assembled prior to the import ban, then it would need no US parts. If it was assembled recently, then 922r would apply.

....yawn........................................
Gorgeous rifle. Wow. Worth $3500? I think so, considering a Poyer will cost you nearly double. I do have to agree with Adam to a certain degree, but a kit gun is a kit gun. BUT, a DAMNED fine kit gun it is!
...I'm really starting to hate discussions on compliance (I'm guilty of opening my pie hole regarding compliance as well). The receiver was imported in the '80s. Done deal, build what you want on it. The parts kits are imported for intent of repair. BATF have better things to do than PROVE when you put the rifle together, and for what purposes? Seriously, get a grip. BATF may not have common sense, but that does not mean that we shouldn't.

I agree a beautiful rifle!
But a foolish expenditure of money for the buyer. The only reason to spend that kind of money ($3,500) would be for an original, unfired, legally imported semi Lithgow rifle that you could keep locked away as a collector's piece.
Spending $3,500 for a parts gun that is probably not 922r compliant, even one as beautiful as this one, even with a Lithgow receiver would defy common sense.
That being said I still wish I had it.

"Spending $3,500 for a parts gun that is probably not 922r compliant...."
Point me to a US Lithgow receiver, and all unissed Aussie parts. Everything about this rifle makes it a collector piece.
There were VERY few factory built Aussie rifles imported. These rifles when they do pop up sell for nearly twice the asked $3500 figure. Here you have a comparable rifle for thousands less.
The only reason why the cuctioned rifle could not pass as authentic factory built rifle is due to the fact THAT THERE WERE NON imported other than the Poyers.
"That being said I still wish I had it."
You hit the nail on the head. So do a lot of other people...and a lot of these people can afford it. Those that cannot will sit here and drool!

Figure about $1200 for all new parts if you can find a barrel and $1200 for a Eden Lithgow $100 for the case and say $350.00 for a pro build so you are at $2900 for replacement alone - if you can find an Eden receiver. Lithgow made the best receiver of any FAL variant.
The new DSA inch recever is every bit as nice as the Lithgow, however, and the machining is much higher quality on the DSA.
All in all, the Eden L1A1 is real nice but the value is all in the original Eden Lithgow receiver and the NOS parts which is reflected in the $2900.
The only real serious collectable is the Poyer or any of the small number of addditional documented Lithgow non Poyer Semi Auto imports .

The matter of compliance is important to me as I have an identical rifle. So, for me, it is a little more than just interesting debate.
The fact that it was assembled here as opposed to SAF Lithgow does make a difference for collectors, I agree. I suppose I will concede the point that anything not assembled by the same folks who manufactured the parts is a kit gun.

You do? Cool... Sure everyone would love to see close up pix of an authentic Lithgow receiver built with an entirely 100% unissued Aussie L1A1 kit. Or are you just stroking us?

Go ask SLR-5000. He sold me the parts.
Edited to add- Till then, just go drool over the pics of the receiver I posted a while back. Sucker. http://www.falfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=175508&highlight=lithgow

Seems we also established in another thread that there are in fact some non-Poyer fully Lithgow assembled L1A1s (semi/no sear) kicking around. Even this was news to me.
