ageing parts

has anyone ever tried to make a receiver look as old as the kit it goes on? (read G1)
I was thinking of trying this but wasn't sure how to go about it.

I was going to try polishing the receiver with a Scothbrite pad and cold blue it. All the other times I've tried cold blue, it seems to acquire that kind if patina.

How about a light "Plum Brown". Get rid of the parkerizing first. Then heat it in the oven and wipe the browning on like the cold blue. It should give a nice warm brown patina.
