So, over the last thirty years I have collected brass. Even for calibers I didnt own. A bit OCD.... Now is the time to start reloading, and the question is this. Assuming I will reload 147gr ball blasting ammo, how far do I go in sorting brass? I know I should keep GI brass seperate from commercial, but where do I stop? LC seperate from Cavim, Indian, etc? Winchester seperate from Fed, Rem? I want this to be as simple as possible while being safe.
Thanks, and have a good and safe new year!

Keeping all the US Commercial is OK as long as you are not maxing out the load, but most long time reloaders will keep everything seperate by manufacturer and # of times reloaded. Look at the primers also to see if it's once fired; if previously reloaded by person's unknown don't take a chance with it.

Military brass (is Cavim even boxer?) should be sorted by maker also, but it just depends on how anal you want to be. Being anal is safer.

Depends on what sort of loading you want to do. A total match shooter might go as far as seporating it out by maker and then by year on the mil stuff. Go on to weigh the case and get them in groups by case weight. Thats to much work for me though. I would just seporate them out by mfg. Seporate the Mil from the civilian and go at it from there.

fro blasting ammo i dont sort them , load up a few mil cases and make sure the load is safe pressure then load the rest and have at it

sorting by headstamp would have slightly more accuracy potential due to less variation in internal case capacity

Does everyone remember the formula for reloading Military brass when only Commercial loads are given????
Weigh the Military case and the Commercial case. Subtract the Commercial case weight from the Military case weight. Multiply this figure by twelve percent and the result is how much you reduce your load.
