My Daughter spied this on our walk today. Anybody know what kind of snake it is?

Northern Water snake- Nerodia Sipedon.

No venom, but bites real good if you pick em up.

Thanks for the ID guys. Northern Water Snake...... it must be another carpetbagger like me LOL! This was right off a paved walking path in the neighborhood, and I let it be in peace.

Is it a pit viper?It doesn't look like it has the glands behind its head in this particular picture.

Naw its a colubrid, pretty much a giant garter snake, or closely related anyway. They are fish and frog eaters.
