How long is the gas tube on STG?

I bought a STG kit awhile back and was taking the receiver off and noticed that the gas tube was 4.5 inch's long and exposing the spring on the gas piston, is this normal?
It does not go back to the receiver.
My Imbel kit's gas tube is 9. some inch's long and goes from the front site and all the way back to the receiver.

Yes this is normal. The later STG58's had short tubes.
