As I gaze with love and affection at my latest completed project (My beloved R1), I ponder on my next excursion into the realm of DIY gunsmithing.
The cost of G3 kist and stuff is really coming down. What are some good sites on G3 assembly? I've tried Google, Dogpile, etc. without much luck. I've found M16/AR15 sites, .45 Auto sites, and many others.
Surely there has to be some info on G3's out there
somewhere.

The best place for HK stuff is WWW.HKPRO.COM. (http://WWW.HKPRO.COM.) You can also try WWW.HK91.COM. (http://WWW.HK91.COM.) Hope this helps.

I also recommend the above sites.
I am in the middle of my first G3 project myself. There isn't near as much info on G3 building, as compared to the FAL. You'll have to really sift through those boards.
The main problem with the G3, is that the barrel must be pressed into the reciever by a professional gunsmith. At least it was well beyond the skills and tools of my home-gunsmithing operation. Other than that, pretty straight forward.
I do recommend to go with the Portuguese, FMP reciever. It's build on HK tooling, and the other just look like sh!t.

Yes go with the FMP unless you want a quick educatin in welding or try to find a machine shop that will weld the barel trunion in for you (correctly) or a board gunsmith that offers this service ( usually pricey) then having the barrel pressed in etc I had to shelve my cetme on hk rcvr due to this for now.The FMP comes with the barrel trunion installed already all that is left is haveing the barrel pressed in it is POSSIBLE to do this yourself IF you know what you are doing.
