View Full Version : Cheap Barrel Vise
I am going to try the Gunthings.com barrel vise but instead of using the melted lead, I am going to use Brownells Steel Bed. Has anyone here tried this before?? I will let you know the results. Plan to use the barrel rosin too. I will not tack weld the channel iron to the base so I can change out the channel iron for other types of barrels. Hope this works............. :p

Can't swear to it but I seem to remember reading about this in one of Brownell's "Gunsmith Kinks" series of books. It should work even though I have never tried it, I happen to have a near unlimited supply of lead.

I had one of the barrel vise's made from
Gunthings diagram.
It is perfect. Have used it several times with complete success.
Holding the barrel securely has always been the fly in the ointment, so to speak, with my rifle building and now that has been resolved. Even the tighest fitting receivers and barrels are no problem.
I would recommend everybody to have one made. They are not that expensive.
