I'd like to be able to have the local knife shop try and put an edge
on my metric FAL bayonet use I can use it as a utility knife when camping etc.

Anyone ever tried that???

I doubt it would hold an edge very long under hard use but might be worth a try.

I sharpened the tip of mine with a file.

I reckon I coulda sharpened the entire edge if I had taken a little more time.

Sure it could be done..
Prolly be best without much taper, but it certainly could be sharpened.
NOT sure what the steel is, so YES the quality of the edge, or how well it keeps may be Questionable?

That's some soft steel. I was able to throw an edge on mine in no time with a file, it just hogged the steel away. Seemed to take an edge faster than a low quality south american machete, so it would probably lose it faster as well. I like the idea of a bayonet you can use as a knife, but the tubular one is just not a practical knife shape for me when I can pick up a decent field knife for 20-40 dollars at a flea market.
