Remove the pistol grip, don't lose the spring and detent.

The detent and spring for the selector switch sits vertically in the gun and backs up into a small hole in the pistol grip. If you unscrew the pistol grip and slowly remove it you will see the spring. There is a little detent pin sitting on top of the spring. After you remove those two the selector switch can be removed.

That would appear to be the "proper" way..............although I have removed them in the past by applying pressure to the opposite face with a plastic screwdriver head and turning the selector lever.....pops right out..to re-install, you just push it in the slot and turn with pressure.........of course my way probably erodes the detent pin!!!

Won't the detent pin be in the way of re-installing the selector if you do it that way? I would imagine the spring would push the detent up far enough to block the hole???
