fellow member "huntr (chip), bought a landowner bull tag for new mexico's unit 7, along with his his father in law (too pricey for me)...

this morning about 8 am he shot a bull at over 570 something yards !! (icr?)
he was on his way over to it when he called....

he is using a 300 wsm with 168 grain barnes triple shocks and reloader 22 powder.. velocity is around 3100 fps..

he said he clicked up 8 clicks on his turret and held dead on....

took the shot and the bull just sat down and rolled over.....

more details later....

congrats chip...........

with all the photos we've seen, I thought the woods were too thick for that distance..

I think Splatter's shot from last year was considerably over 400 yards.
Yeah, alot of timber but there are meadows as well as shooting from across the canyons.

I hope he honours that majesstic animal by making sure none is wasted. No life should end in vain. The truest trophy is shared by both hunter and quarry. Good shooting.

Fortis!

he is hunting here in new mexico, not colorado, where the "files guys" hunting trip is to take place.
more open terrain.....

from what he said, it's not a huge bull, a rag horn as well call em, possibly a 4x4 or ??

and don't worry, he won't waste a thing....

looks like fresh elk backstraps for our hunt...!!!

i haven't spoke to him since this a.m. when he was walking over to it, so i know no more details......

he said by gps, he was just 2.5 miles from camp....
i kinda know where he is, as i moved rigs down in there a few years ago, but not 100 percent sure.

he most likely had to cut it into pieces to get it out..

hey albq thugs, he's off on the right just before cuba, right on the continental divide....
just before the final approach to cuba, where you'd turn left to go to lindrith/regina....

ya'll came past it yesterday on the way up and back to chaco..

Just so I'm clear. He made a phone call between shooting an elk and walking over to dress it? Wow things sure have changed.

yep, sure did...now that's friendship isn't it..

last year while i was sitting on top the mountain, i was talking to 'tude, while checking elk out thru the bino's...giving him a play by play..

some of us here have become true friend thru the years..

some day i hope we all here get to this point...
