Recently picked this up as a buffer to narrow value of firearm trade.

Knife was just too cool...couldn't resist! I'm not a big knife buff, but I I'll tell you what I know (and been told).

Previous owner stated that he commissioned the build of this knife a few years earier. He stated it cost him $500, and that he got a deal. How true that is, I don't know.

Handmade by a guy named Ted Ott. He is out of Elgin, Texas.

Blade is made from ATS-34 steel (and so marked). Hardware is all brass. Fit and finish is exceptional...beuatiful piece. You would think that the thing would be heavy and ackward due to the size, but it is actually nicely balanced and realtively light! Is someone knew what they were doing with this knife, they do some really ugly things. :uhoh:

Marked "OTT KNIVES" over "Elgin Texas" on blade.

Dual edges are SUPER sharp. Yes, I have already cut myself on the damned thing while wiping finger tips off blade. yeah...I know....

Handle material appears tobe some kind of green carbon fiber composite. Appears to be durable, and looks cool.

That is a beautiful kukri pattern! The handle is linen Micarta.
Definately worth all of 500.

What a nice knife! I want one!

Something I've been thinking about getting is a "falcata" - mentioned in "The Black Arrow"

Did it come with a sheath? Ott's leather work is state of the art also.

The knife was made by a knifesmith by the name of Ted Ott. Person who traded me this knife collects. He stated that Ted Ott is a relative newbie to knife making (been picking up steam over last 5 years), but is gaining a great deal of respect over the last couple years.

As for this knife, owner of firearm that I wanted offered some knives to bridge value gap. I told him that I am not really looking for a knife, but what be swayed by something that would realy jump out at me. Well, this one did! He was reluctant to let it go, but he was really motivated to receive my rifle.

I did find this knife online from the same maker:

Yes, I gathered the gist of most of that in the first post...

So, did it come with a sheath?

The Ibans and Gurkhas had much in common. They loved knives. During rest periods in the jungle they would unsheathe their blades and gently test the edge with their thumb, knowing all the time, of course, just how sharp they were. Whenever action seemed imminent, even though they were armed with the small Sterling gun, they would draw their kukris.

i thought if they pulled a knife they had to draw blood with it......if not yours they had to cut themselves
