View Full Version : Why not the Brownell's wrench?

There are lot's of FAL receiver wrenches out there. Like a lot of you though I have interest in more than one type of rifle (heresy?). Rather than buy one wrench for FAL's, one for Garand/M14's one for Rem. 700's why not buy the Brownells combination system?

I have an older catalog and it looks like you could purchase nearly all of the common wrench heads and the handle for $400. Yes, a bunch of money but you would be set up for everything but 6.5 Arisakas! Thoughts.

I have the Brownell wrench for the large ring 98 mauser. I don't have one for the FAL. It's a nice wrench, but I think that something like Casey's wrench would work better for me since I won't be turning the reciever, but just holding it in a vice.

I use the Brownell's wrench system and it works great. The FNFAL wrench head is thin looking, not as thick as other manufacturer's but it works great. And, as already stated above, you can use the system with any rifle/pistol frame, just change the wrench head.

I have used both the Brownells and Casey's FAL receiver wrenches. Casey's makes the better wrench. It's built better and will not mar the receiver as much as the Brownells. Especially if the barrel is REAL tight.

I bought the bownells. It is split verticly and is a little thin. I ended making my own out of thicker aluminum split horizontally. Works better. The Brownells wanted to cam it's way out and I actually deformed the gas piston nut hole slightly. my $.02

I really thought hard about the Brownell's wrench head as we have the handle and the Garand and Rem 700 heads in the shop now. Decided that for just a few more bucks I could have the best wrench available, Casey's. So I ordered one when he knocked a few bucks off and have been very happy.
