Hensoldt FERO Z24 Illuminator battery?

What kind of battery does the original German illuminator for the Hensoldt Z24 (i.e. the one being sold by Dan's) use? It appears to take a standard 'AA' 1.5V battery. Is this correct or does it need some special German Mil-Spec battery?

(I searched the web but couldn't find anything specific.)
