Has anyone cut and crowned a chrome lined barrel. If so, how did this affect the chrome lining (i.e. flaking, peeling, chipping at the crown)? I've cut and crowned regular barrels and am thinking of doing the same to a chromed one.

Check Gunplumbers post on this subject - He says no problems with flaking or peeling. HTH

Hey Nik,
I have heard others talk of flaking, yet have not seen it (nor know anyone with firsthand knowledge of this). I have cut a couple barrels and have not had this happen, yet. I cut with a bandsaw, straiten and contour the cut on a belt sander, then use a RCBS reamer to cut the crown. I have seen no effect on accuracy.
I do hedge my bet tho. I always make the cut about 1/2" over the desired length (just in case). In doing this, I figure if flaking did start, I could redo the cut/length. My gunsmith approves of my end crown. The gunplumber approves of cutting chrome lined as do others. ;)
