Does anyone have any experiance with dedicated night vision rifle scopes? I'm not interested in goggles, mono on a helmet, or putting a mono on a rail in front of another optic a al aimpoint/eotech. Not interested unless the scopes suck, that is. ATNj or Yukon. Will go on a dedicated NV AR. I'm thinking Gen 2 or 2+ and this would be for stationary shooting.

After playing with a few of other peoples toys - My best choice was IR laser on rifle with Mono or goggles.
1) you don't have to point the weapon at something you may not want to endanger to ID it.
2) laser module is much less delicate than NV scope.
3) for practical purposes gen 1 does enough for me.
Some things I can tell you - You get what you pay for in NVD - Gen 3 is much longer lived than earlier stuff - You want to practice with it as you depth preception is going to be thrown off.

I would skip Gen 2 altogether and go with a Gen 1 if your budget is tight, or a Gen 3 if you want one that is good and will last you a long time.
I bought what is called a D-760 (6 power) Gen 2 at first, but the tube started getting a lot of black dots all over it with only a few hours on it. I sent it back and paid the difference for a Gen 3 Select Alpha hand picked tube D-740, which is a 4 power. I like this scope a lot better. The Gen 3 tube is so much better words can't describe it.
The resolution in the center of a Gen 1 tube is actually pretty good these days. The main problem with Gen 1 is that they don't have good photoresponse, meaning they don't amplify light well. All you need to get more range from a Gen 1 is an infrared illuminator. There's a fellow called Victor over at AR15.com that sells a torch for night vision scopes. I have one, and it works. It's really powerful. Just remember that when the illuminator is on anyone else with NV can see the light also and spot your position. Good info to know for paintball games.

I have shot and tried several.
The MUM 14 Grade A tube is my monocular, and the 6x Raptor is my scope of choice.
Remember the raptor weighs just as much as an AR, which makes for a VERY HEAVY rifle. But you can get LONG Shots off. I would say to at least 800 Yards. It is amazing.

can anyone recommend a brand or two. i don't wan't crap. im probably looking for a gen 3 but i want it to be able to handle being put on an l1a1. is atn pretty good?
i want something that can handle shots at 400m-600m. ofcourse something that is as light on the pocket is nice. i know i'm going to be spending a couple grand regardless. i just don't want to sacrifice quality.
