Picked up an STG barrel from a smith with a good selection of parts. The bore didn't look too bad compared to a new barrel. Smith said he had "gaged" it at a "1" about 20K rounds through it. Does that sound correct? What kind of life is realistic for an STG barrel?

I think the smith is pulling your leg. They last a long time but I would think after 20K that bbl wouldn't gauge at 1. 1 is near new and 0 is brand spankin new IIRC.

My guess would be that most FAL bbls would go for about 20-30K before being worn out. That's just a guess. Hopefully someone with more experience will reply.

IIRC somebody said 10k for a normal barrel, 20k for a HB. I think Jeter posted this awhile ago - somebody fire up a Dremel to get his attention...... :p
