Just got my sight from GUNTHINGS.com because of their description of "Good to Very GOOD" instead of DSA who is in my back yard and this is what I got:

And it doesnt fit on my rifle, it won`t allow me to slide the cover completely forward because of these tabs on the back of the cover?
Anyone know whats going on there?

The tabs are for Inch receivers cut for the tabs. For metrics you remove the tabs. The more I looked at this picture the worse the scope looked.Return it.

It looks like you have one with the early style elevation lever.

You'll probably want to get a rubber eye piece for it (I don't know who has any at present).

I have one marked "Don 4/91". I wonder who "Don" was. Could it be an acronym for something? Or just some guy that put grafitti on SUITs?

If your optic is clear, the paint job suggested above might make it into a nice scope!

Hope it all works out to your satisfaction.

As far as the worn paint goes thats what 'good to very good' looks like.
How does the glass look?
Did it come with the rubber eye piece?

The SUIT is one tough old scope. Give it a nice paint job. mod the cover to fit and it will serve you well.

Ok well if that`s what its supposed to look like then I`ll just fix it up.
I had no clue something so beat up is considered good to very good.

A new rubber eye piece was included and everything else is in working order except the 300m to 500m lever doesn`t seem to make any difference to me but maybe I`m wrong..

Look thru the scope in BOTH directions, with the unit held abou 5~10" from your eye. Then loook at the glass surfaces.
If the image is clear & sharp when looking thru it normally, both the internal & external glass surfaces show no signs of anything, looking "cloudy" , no "oily patches" especially at the edges of the glass, and nothing looking like spider webs internally, then it's probably fine optically. The external glass should be slick, smooth & shiny. Any minute scratches or marks indicate that you need to get it replaced. Breathe on the surfaces & look at how the condensation looks, it will show up all sorts of minute defects that can'rt be seen normally.
If the "damage" is just cosmetic then you can fix that with good paint Just be sure to mask off the glass & moving parts first.
The elevation cam will move the scope minutely on the base "T-bar" you probably won't notice any change just looking at it as the difference is measured in 1/1000th's of an inch.
Put it on the rifle & fire at 100 yds, flick the lever & fire again, the POI should move about 9" vertically.

Thanks for posting that pic. Their example doesn't look anything like that. Wowsers........

Come on guys, how do you rate that as acceptable! Take a look at gunthings website and the picture of what to expect!!! I'll say it...thats BS.

I agree, externally that does not look good to very good. But the optics may be. The outsides are often repainted many times, and Ricketts does a nice job of refinishing these to new condition.
You have the early style of SUIT, and it is very desirable to collectors. I would feel this balances the need to refinish, if it was mine.
These were built and used for British and later Australian L1A1s. Please don't cut the tabs off the topcover if you are using this on a metric FAL. Notch your receiver properly instead. Early Belgian metric receivers were notched.

I was expecting something close to that pic posted on their site, IMOP that`s false advertising since what I received looks like it`s been thru WWII.
Oh well, I took some time to work on it today and it looks alot better.
I have to say the optics are very good.
I~ll post some new pics.

I'll be honest, early style SUIT or not. I would have been pretty pissed had that thing shown up at my door.

When I replied to your post last night, I was a little distracted. My apologies.
I'm glad the optics are at least in good shape, but on reflection I'd try contacting the seller & point out that the battered finish was not what you saw, ordered, or paid for.
Let them know you're not happy & see what they can or will do for you to make it right.
Mis-undestandings do happen & I've found that in most cases the shooting community & it's suppliers will usually fix things like this, given a chance.

YES it should have:)

Are there accuracy issues if I cut the ears of the dust cover?
I`d hate to notch my receiver...:?

thanx

I never experienced any issues with the tabs cut off. As long as the top cover fits as tightly as possible to the rifle and the mount itself is tight with no wobble. It will hold a zero.

Thanx Scott!

Well I have to say Customer service is very good at GUNTHING.COM.
They called me back this morning and offered to exchange for another sight since I was not happy.
Since I had already refinished it we agreed on a discount off the price, so I`m happy:)

Does your SUIT clear the rear sight on your metric FAL? It looks like you have the rear sight slid forward a bit and it just barely clears the SUIT.

I'm still kinda interested in getting one.

Thanks,

Flyer
