I remember reading a post about using black shoepolish to darken the metal. I think you applied it right after it came out of the tank. I am about to do my G1 kit and was thinking of trying it.
Anyone ever do this? Were you satisfied w/the results?
Thanks

I tried black leather dye (liquid). Total waste of money.

Use an acid bath before you put it in the tank. 10 to 1, H2O - Muratic Acid. Mine come out nearly black if I have it hot enough.

I think Derby hit the nail on the head. Heat is key with the darker parkerizing (maganese phosphate).

How hot are you talking? 190 - 200 degree heat?
