View Full Version : ANY ONE KNOW IF THE EARLY ART MPC IS WORTH A DAMN?

I have a friend that is cleaning out his safe and calls me to unload his excess.

I really am fortunate to have his friendship, because he is an old-school bolt gun reloading SME. I have learned alot, and now that he is getting to the age, where he can't really shoot anymore, he has been passing things on to younger shooters who he knows will use the gear... I doubt any of his sons took an interest, unfortunately.

Anyway, he pulls out a never used ART-MPC with the single stadia line, not the brackets used on later models.

I have gone to the Leatherwood website, but I am curious, is this scope worth using? I pride myself on recommending only the best for the money, and he wants me to figure a fair price if I have a friend that is interested, and since I'm not completely up on an optic this old, I thought someone out there might have some experience with this particular scope. BDC Scopes were pretty rare, so I'm betting someone here has messed with one and can tell me if it is junk or a diamond, because I would never take advantage of the situation, which in all likelihood, is the reason for our friendship in the firstplace.

I have another friend that has a genuine HK-91 and I think this would suit him well using the HK claw mount, but I don't want to steer him wrong, either.

Any recommendations on a price to start at?

Thanks in advance!

If it is this ART MPC scope then you certainly have a fine piece of shooting optics.

I have some of the newer scopes that have been made since he started having them made in China and they are still a decent quality scope for what is paid. However they are no where near the equal of the original Leatherwood Brothers scopes.

Thanks! I suspected it was a good scope, now I just have to determine the worth. I have a friend that wants to mount it on an HK-91 using the ARMS claw mount. I think I'll call Leatherwood to see if they can help determine the market price. I appreciate your post, Sharpshooter.

Glad to help, I love the Leatherwood scopes, they were and are really way ahead of their time. I have very early Realist and Redfield models before Jim Leatherwood started making them himself. The new ones are actually nice scopes considering they are made in China and a great value for the $.
This is just my experience but depending on condition that early ART MPC should fetch $500 or close to it, with no problems for the right person. I am a big fan of early ART scopes and mounts. In fact if your old shooting friend has one of the original ART AR15 cary handle scope mounts I have been actively persuing one of those for a while now.
