Has anyone took the spring out of the rear sight and drilled and tapped the slider for a set screw?
I'm thinking it would eliminate the slop and still allow for adjustemnts as needed.
Just squeeze the rear site in a vise to tighten up.

Well, the spring holds tension same as a set screw will. Main problem in the system is the front sight is on the upper and the rear is on the lower with a happenstance ridgidity of upper to lower at best.

What he said. Unless something gets in there or the spring is dead the rear sight should go back to the same place.
Of course banging on the Hesse to get a round out with a sledgehammer might make a change or two on the next shot.

That's one way to do it but it looks like overkill and is more than little on the ugly side.
I just bedded the upper and lower receivers together where the lug on the upper meets the lower.
It's fast, simple, inexpensive and not visible when the gun is assembled so you only have to do minimal clean up on the bedding (knock down the hard edge where the lower receiver rails fit into the bedding on the upper to prevent it from getting chipped when you snap the two receivers together.)
It takes out all the slop betwene the upper and lower and given there is no relative motion between the parts, you'd have to really beat the hell out of it to put any slop back in. Eventually repeated assembly and disassembly may wear on the bedding to the point where you want to redo it, but again it's quick and easy to do and would not be a problem even if you had to redo it every few years.
