Reading thru this section...the thought crossed me feeble brain...I have a Weaver type scope mount that fits a PSL siderail mount...If I obtained another side rail...does anyone think that it would work on a FAL? It probably have to be lined up and spot welded...any experience or thoughts would be welcome....ty Akicita...

Side mount on the left will interfere with the cocking handle. On the right will have empties bouncing off it. It might still work on that side. It would have to come back over center or be rather strange to try to use. DSA, A.R.M.s and some fellows here on the FALFiles have made very nice mounts. TAPCO has had some reasonable ones that were inexpensive and there are others around also. Not worth screwing with a side mount I think.

Most solid SLR mount I ever saw (and ugliest) was welded to the receiver. Two uprights on the right side with a flat at 90 degs over the top. weaver rail screwed down onto the flat. Rifle had a documented 60k + rounds through it and still going strong.

Let me see here is I have a pic....

Sorry the pic really does not show the mount but I am sure you get the idea.
