Thinking about getting one in OD for my Rem 700 VSF .308 to start my quest into long range shooting out to 1000 yds.

I already have Smith Ent. 30 mm Rings and 20 MOA 1pc. base.

I really like the looks and features of the Burris...

Burris XTR (http://www.riflescopes.com/products/201912/burris_3-12x50_xtreme_tactical_xtr_30mm_rifle_scope.htm)

I could easily go with a Leupold Mark 4 Tactical type, but I like being a little different.

Nightforce, US Optics, Schmidt and Bender and others high enders are a possibility but the investment is bit steep for me and my factory rifle setup.

Any thoughts or experiences on the Burris XTR ?

Perhaps some leads to some better pricing on either the XTR or some of Leupold Mark 4 's. in the 3-12x50 or 4-16x ?? range.

Nightforce is a very nice optic, but like you said you only have a stock rifle....IMO you could go with the Burris or Mark 4 and if you like shooting at the distance your shooting at and do some mod's to the Remy than you can always upgrade to a better optic down the road.

I have trouble competing on Burris, However on the Leupys I can sometimes do about 75-200.00 off depending on model.....Just PM or Email me and we can talk.

If you're gonna spend that kind of money, I would recommend you look at a real military scope. And what is with that weird reticle on that Burris scope?
Night force is excellent, but very $$$$.

I think the IOR scopes are great, especially the tactical models with the MP8 reticle. The optics are very clear and these things are built like tanks. I have a 4-14 x 50 that is great. The reticle is etched in glass and will not break or move. The reticle has half-mil increments that allow range estimation and compensation. You can use the target knobs for range adjustment which are on the money. I think these scopes are great with the exception of the 2-12 variable power model. I don't recommend that one as the variability in power is too great leading to a distorted optic with bad eye relief.
