View Full Version : Got my ARS-built FAL shooting great now.

A week ago I posted that I was getting some pretty bad groups with my new FAL. Here's what I did, thanks in part to some of the great advise given here:
-Installed DSA floating hand guards.
-Made a cheek pice for the X-stock.
-Switched scopes from a Russian 7x with inverted chevron range finder to a BSA 6-24x with standard crosshair.
-Removed the crappy DSA parts and reinstalled the original Imbel HTS for a MUCH smoother and lighter feel.

Can't say which mod worked the best but I was getting 2-3 inch groups at 100 yards with Portuguese surplus. With the iron sights I am still getting about 4-5 inch spread in what looks like 2 separate impact areas. The aperture is still a little wobbly even after I shimmed it with part of a Sprite can. This is far better than my 7 inch groups. ARS really puts together a quality product and I suspect it was the DSA Hammer Trigger Sear that was the main culprit. That and the flinching from the painful X-stock. Thanks again for everyone's advice.

Glad to hear that you got your rifle shooting ok but I hope you didn't mess up your US parts count by removing the DSA trigger group.

Yeah, you've jiggled the US parts count. Get a set of RPB/FSE from Harold Shinn. Great stuff, clearly marked, and they work like gangbusters. Harold also is a real csutomer service guy.
