Asking for a recommendation on a scope is going to garner a lot of responses.

I recently purchased a Nikon 6-18X40 Buckmaster for my Ruger 77 in .223 and I feel that it's very suitable for the rifle and cartridge.

There are many others out there that would also do a good job, but the Nikon is very decent quality for the money.

I bought it through www.4scopes.com for a bit under $300. Most places are getting about $350 for them.

both the above mentioned scopes would definately suit your needs. keep your shooting abilities and what your going to use it for first and foremost in your mind when deciding. it will save you alot of money especially if you only use it during hunting. tactical and competition scopes are nice but they have their own specific uses. hence the price, but that being said check out snipershide.com those guys change scopes more than you change your underwear and they dump their "inferior" (reads Non Nightforce, USO, S&B) scopes at a good price.

I'd say it all depends on how far you plan on shooting....what you plan to shoot at and also Recticle may depend on if you can use the Mil Dot system or if your going to use a Range Finder.....Once you let us know more details than I'd say we can give you better advise. Since we all can throw out optics and power ranges and recticles, but if we dont have more details than you could go down the wrong road.

BTW Let me know which you decide to get and I might be able to get you a good deal...Depending on the optic!

Well I went to a machine gun shoot and I got really tired of shooting subguns and blowing through ammo laike a SOB, I looked over and my buddies had their LTR's pickin' off targets out in the way back. I thought that looked like fun and it was a bit of a change up from the subguns. So I sold some gunstuff and and bought the LTR. I picked 223 due to cheaper ammo and less recoil thinking my wife might shoot it. Now I just need a scope. I think I'll mostly shoot paper out to 2-300 yards with the occasional shoot with "stuff". I just started reloading and I'll probably end up reloading for this gun. I'd like to see my holes with the scope, not sure if I can do that with the 10X. If they're that close I'll just whip out the uzi!

well hell i shot them all bushnell to nightforce nxs which currently sits on my custum remmy 700 in 22 250. the scopes mentioned above would be great for 200 to three hundres yards i think 12 power would work excellent. you really dont need and 800 dollar scope to shoot 300 yards. the recticle is up to you. since you will be shooting at a black centered target. i lighted recticle is very helpful so you dont guessimate when your at the center of the black. but my personal liking is the thick cross hairs that are ultrafine at about 1/3 of the way from the middle. but go to one of the huge shooting supply stores and find a recticle you like. being a varmint hunter i see alot of scopes on all differnt rigs. and a lot of the 223 guys have been using the sightron scopes about 300 dollars or less on cz and remmys with very good results. actually i shot a freinds savage 110 with a sightron scope on it and it was awesome. it shot as well or better than alot of the higher priced setups. i love my nightforce i just didnt like paying for it. pretty soon you will be converting to a 6 x 45 and wanting to go shoot ground squirrels. lol.

My local sportsman wharehouse has Zeiss Conquest 3x9 for $399. It's a little less magnifacation than I would like but the glass was very nice and brighter than the leo. What do you think?
