i get every other monday off now, and i am getting used to the grandson,
so i am starting to take him fishing every chance i get.
i have no kids , so this is all new to me.

he is now 6 and i am soooo glad he is into outdoors things , especially fishing.
he spent sunday night with us, and monday morning we went to breakfast with my machinist friend, then to the pawn shop, then to walmart,
where granpa, got him his first real fishing rod and reel.
now he is a big boy !

so anyways,
i take him my machinist friends place on the san juan river and we had a blast yesterday.
caught lots of trout and few suckers.

i had to go back to town for a bit, and grandma, joined us again in the evening.
now they were really biting..
we ended up keeping 6 trout due to swallowed hooks, and let all the others go.

the best part of the evening is when dakota tied into a huge sucker, almost as long as he is tall !!
took him about 20 minutes to land the thing.
all he could talk about is how hard it fought, and showed us time and time again, how he fought it..

i really am getting attached to the little guy !!

he baits his own hooks, casts a spinning rod better than a lot of adults i know, lands his own fish, unhooks them, and pose's for pic like a pro.

here's a trout he just landed..
it was flopping around and he was having a heck of a time holding on to it...!!

Great stuff mate....just great....!!! I am away with my one of my best mates and his son (my Godson) for a week in July. Looking forward to it very much.

I also jut bought myself a new spinning reel a week or so ago so I will be out bothering the trout when the season opens in October.

Fishing has to be one of the finest things you can get kids into (& not because I own a tackle shop:tongue: ).

Good on you Mark

when it's time, he has access to my safe to play (with me) with anything he wants....

as for one of his own right now, it's up to his mom and dad(s).....

later, he's all mine.....

to me he's just not ready for one, not even a bb gun..

but why,,,,, is a story all on itself.....and not the time to tell it now.....

I've taken my kids camping, fishing, and shooting. That's about some of the best things a parent and daughter/son can do together.

I look forward to doing the same with grandkids too.

Nice pictures. Careful, or we are going to get the kinder gentler Splat.

Seriously, looks like a nice time.
