View Full Version : Hammer doesn't stay back (follows bolt forward)

Hi folks, been out of town for a while and just got back to playing.

Anyway some folks might remember a couple months back I was having problems with my home built doing double and triple shots. While this was amusing I decided I might get into some trouble so I should fix it.
The problem is that sear doesn't catch the hammer properly. I decided to try a new hammer and sear from enterprise to try and fix this and so I could use stock magazines.

Well it fixed it, now it's a single shot rifle. The hammer follows the bolt home every time.
I'm pretty sure it's not gas settings since it locks open on the last shot.

Any suggestions? Weak sear spring maybe?

either sear nose too long, or front part of oval hole in sear doesn't go far enough forward (prevents sear nose from coming back far enough = sear nose too long), or "hammer bent" (ser notch) in hammer too shallow, or top edge of sear nose wrong angle or too rounded.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I just thought that since I was having basically the same problem with both the original parts as well as the Enterprise parts that maybe it was something else.

Hmm, I can follow most of what you said except the bit about the oval hole in the sear. I didn't think that came into play until after you released the trigger and the sear got pushed back.

I have the same problem with a friend's L1A1 using FSE hammer and sear. Hammer follows the bolt. Any suggestion on where to apply the file and/or Dremel?

If the nose of the sear is too long (or doesn't have enough movement allowed) the sear stays under the sear notch in the hammer, instead of snapping up into the notch. Typical of FSE, try removing a tiny bit at a time, mainting same angle. Will sometimes work fine dy cycling and then not catch on live fire. So only live firing is a good test.
