I received an East German AK-47 barrel that has some corrosion problems. The rifling has a "hairy growth" on each edge of the lands. The grooves and chamber don't appear to be pitted or corroded at all. On one of the four lands at the end of the barrel looks very crusty. Are there any products or procesess that can remove these deposits and or corrosion?
Thanks

CorrosionX will do the job.
Email me off list.

Clean it well. Brass bristle brushes and gun solvents will remove what can be removed without damage. Oil it up to store with good quality gun oil to keep the corrosion at bay. Whatever has occurred for pitting or other corrosion damage cannot be undone, but yours may not be too bad and will probably not impact it's function or accuracy to any serious degree. Shoot it. It's an AK. It doesn't have to be pretty or perfect to function properly.

Clean it as if you shot corrosive ammo. Hot soapy water will do the trick. Scrub the bore with the water mix, the hot water will evaporate quickly. Then oil the barrel with CorrosionX.
This method worked great on my Yugo barrel that kept growing stuff in the barrel. No more crud after I got the corrosive ammo residue out of the barrel.
