Hey all,
A mate of mine just scored a new Cold Steel Trailmaster but the leather sheath that it comes with is pretty ordinary. He is looking for a kydex or similar sheath.
Anyone know where such a beasty could be acquired ?
Thanks as always.

Hey Andy:
If ya can't find one commercially...make one! :D
Kydex is very forgiving and simple to work with. Offctr made a bunch of component specific pieces for his gear. Just heat, fold and trim.
My TOPS knife came w/a Kydex sheath. The fella I got it from talked about how the do it. Same process....heat, fold around knife, wait for cool and trim, add a few rivit/screws and DONE!
Prolly find the material doing a search on the 'net. I'll send pix of mine if needed for reference.
Better than not having one at all
HTH,
Paul

Thanks mate. That is option two.... ;) If it were mine I would probably be doing it (or at least trying to get the components together) now. My mate is less incline to DIY something. I just can't believe they sell a knife that is big and heavy (not to mention a couple of hundred $$s) and supply such a crap sheath...!!
Thanks for the advice...!!

Contact Mike Sastre at River City Sheaths and he'll fix ya'll right up. He makes outstanding sheaths and is a knife user as well.

You might want to take a look at an Eagle sheath too, their nylon with a kydex liner.
I tend to like them better than the strait kydex ones, at least the form fitted ones, or one for something as large as a trail master.
They seem more "flexible" and forgiving to you'r body during movement, so their not always sticking a hard sheath edge into you somewhere or forcing the handle into you.
Plus their much quieter, both to wear and while unsheathing the knife.
Kydex is just so noisy in contact with anything like brush or any hard object, and I have a few you could hear me unsheath from you'r side of the pond !!
Form fitted kydex also takes it's toll on you'r knife's finish, and just try cleaning out any dirt that get's in there and turns the kydex into sandpaper
Just my $.02 Mate

Thanks mate.....I will suggest that to him as well. I have a Eagle sheath here (on my SRK and) and think it is great. The Trailmaster is more knife than I would want to be carrying around (I do believe he is trying to "compensate for something" .... ;) ) but a nice piece of steel none the less. I would not have thought Eagle made a big enough one but that is what I get for not doing research.
Good to hear from you mate. Will catch up via e-mail soon and let you know how things are.

I did'nt do any research either Andy, so I could be wrong, I just assumed they'd have one available for something as popular as the CS trailmaster.
Big shouldent be a problem in itself, I've got Eagle sheaths for bigger blades than the trailmaster.
I have things such as a 14" MMHW bowie, a 16" Al Mar Pathfinder and a 20" EF custom bolo machete, that all reside in Eagle sheaths.
Though I believe those are all either specially made or limited edition ones.
BTW, not all of us are trying to "compensate for something" :(
Some of us are just used to working with something a little bigger

Size is all relative mate..... ;)

I'm not sure what the story is there Andy, it's been years since I've talked to them or seen John Carver at a show.
Maybe they've trimmed down the line because of military sales volume on their other products, or possibly their only wholesaling the fixed blade sheaths to knife manufacturers or dealers ??
I'll take a look through my junk, I know I've got a few extras floating around, but I think their all for 7" models.
I'll keep an eye out though, if I do happen across something.
