I have some questions on price and availability of FAL and AK magazines.
Where can someone find "NEW in wrapper" 20 round STEEL Fal mags for less than COLLECTOR's prices ?
Why are used FAL 20 round steel mags priced at $6 + ? I'm NOT talking about dented or rust covered. I'm not talking about Online Auctions either. Yes I know one outfit still offering Stgs in 10 pk quantity for $45 + shipping.
Since I was finding plentiful supplies in 2004 up to Mid 2005 I would like to know why the supply has shunk!
With due respect, Please no guesses or theories; just specific reasons obtained from NAMED specific sources that I can CALL or E-Mail and contact for more details. Thank you in advance.
Now to AK mags. A friend of mine went to J&G to pick up some items including AK 30 round Metal East Block mags. He found the price had gone-up and was told that the reason for the increase was they could not find additional supplies at this time. Does anyone know WHY ? Again, please give me the source from which the reasons came so I can get more details. Thank you again in advance.

cant give you a reason for the lack of NIW fal mags other than people are hoarding them.if you want some put a WTB ad in the marketplace im sure someone would be willing to part with some..fal mags arent scarce just the pristine examples are.
for the AK mags me thinks J&G is trying to cash in on the kit building boom. AK mags arent scarce either.unless your looking for NIW mags then they would be scarce

The only new in wrap FAL mags that seemed to be available in quantity were the sealed G1 mags in the 10 paks. They are sold out. Occasionally one still finds Izzy NIW mags, but they were never as plentiful as the FN manufactured ones. It's surplus, when it's gone, it's gone until more get's sold off.

J&G has NEVER had the best prices or selection on mags. It pays to shop.

Used metric mags, right here in the marketplace, sold by me, 10/$46 or 25/$92 shipped. I'm VERY small time, but I can't get them in fast enough to keep up. I've also got the second highest trader rating on this board  so at least a couple of guys have been pleased...
As for NIW mags, at this point they are more collector pieces than they are retail items. Shoulda bought all you could store when TAPCO had them.

I prefer the old FAL mags with the great patina. Proves they work! And they are cheap. FALs and AKs benefit from a large supply of cheap mags. Inch mags for the FAL are not too cheap but most Inch rifles can use the cheap Metric mags anyway.

No tiblow........give 411 his due. We need to start an INVESTIGATION.
He is right, there seems to be a shortage of NEW in the wrap Fal mags.
He wants to know why Fal mags supply has shrunk?
With luck, maybe this project will keep him busy for a while.........after all, if we get hit by 12, errr 6.......errrr or 1 nuke wondering about the price/availablility of mags will be the least of his problems. :)
Of course you would think some one who KNOWS it all, would know the answer to those questions:p
The answer is...........................well I aint going to give it away!!

"why has the FAL mag supply shrunk?"
Well; it could be that there's way too many fellas here that have more than can be counted! :D
Remember when inch mags were $25-30 bucks...*IF* ya could find 'em? Same w/metrics at $12-15, used? When the "cheap" mags hit our shores, dealers big and small, along with some individuals scarfed 'em up. NOw that kits and rcvrs are slowing down some, mags; being just a part of the equation, are scarce too...in bulk/NIW [!?]
Supply and demand, supply and demand!
I got mine....do you? ;)
Best,
Paul

I went to the Reno gun show last month and there were TONS of FAL mags in the $6-$10 range for very slightly used. Plenty of beat up ones for $5 and new in the wrapper for $15-$20.
As far as mags go, about the only thing I see cheaper are AK mags...

The new in wrap mags are being hoarded by the same forces that have taken all the 762 ammo. I could tell you the source of this info but your life would be in danger.
Who cares anyway - I traded/sold off all my NIW mags becuase I could buy 2- 3 times as many as new out of wrap mags.
