View Full Version : Did Federal Arms upgrade their scope mount hardware?

I've got one of the Federal Arms scope mounts and the locking plates and screws seem to be rather soft. The threaded holes in the plates look like they might strip out some day.

To date the mount has worked fine but before I get another one I'd like to see them harden the screws and locking plates.

The screws were soft on the mount I got, and one of them stripped out right away. I drilled and tapped all four screws out to the next larger size (#8 I believe) and used hardened allen screws. I also drilled and tapped an extra hole on each side for additional clamping strength. Then I carefully fitted the screws so they would be as long as possible without protruding from the clamping plate and thus binding on the bolt carrier.

This made a big difference, and now the mount clamps solidly to the receiver. Other than the small, soft screws, I think the mount is very good. If you are willing to do a little work on it, you can have a very suitable mount for not much money.
