Has anyone else had a problem with the retaining pin backing out of these during firing? Any solutions like maybe replacing with a roll pin? By the way this is not one of the newer ones, I've had it for a couple of years.

Are you refering to the cocking handle lug pin that holds the cocking handle lug? If so, all of mine are already roll pins. http://chilirat.com/emoticons/chilirat.gif

He might be talking about the big pin the cocking handle rotates on.

I had one that would back itself out while shooting, in particular would come upwards instead of down, like one might think.

I corrected it by taking it entirely out and flattening one end ever so slightly so it would not slide thru and reinstalled it from the bottom putting in the unflattened end first and pushing it in.
It should be just big enough to push in and fit flush without being able to to all the way through.

Bruce, you are correct, the big pin the folding handle itself rotates on when opening or folding down. Thanks for the advice, I'll try it.

Now that I think about it some more I am not sure if it worked it way out up or down!!!

When it happened to me I posted the same question you did and got no response at all, so I had to figure out a solution on my own.

I have one that appeared it may be able to work itself out although it never did. I fixed the "problem" with a slightly stronger similar sized spring behind the detent inside of the cocking piece (possibly a L1A1?).
The pin now always stays flush with the cocking handle. However, because of the stronger spring, the handle will not automaticly close when you sling-shot, you now have to flick it closed.
The charging handle also has more spring tention when closed now, the handle does not rattle at all, I actually like it better now than with the weaker spring.

It eases out the top after only a few rounds are fired.

I have one that doesn't stay latched. It tends to end up half way up the slot somewhere each mag, The pin hasn't moved. In fact I have not been able to remove it. If I can, I will try an original spring. If it will fit.
