i just put my arms mount on my fal...fit like a dream...my question is...whats that piece of metal at the back that prevents you from removing the bolt carrier? i imagine its important but what do you think would happen if it was removed? thanks

The tab on the rear of the mount presses on the recoil plate ensuring a snug fit and good return to zero when the mount is removed and replaced. Or so I've been told...

Is the tab an attach point for the para version guide rod?
On my ARMS mount, I drilled out the rivet which secures the tab to the inside of the mount. The tab is held in place securely with the reciever halves closed, and fills up the gap between mount and reciever rear sight area.
With the rifle opened up, a slight tug on the carrier tail bumps the tab loose(if rivet drilled out).
