Are there any nationwide sources for parkerizng chemicals, especially phosphoric acid? I'd like to buy locally if possible. I'm close to Atlanta, GA. Also, what strength and grade is used? I've seen acid percentage to water ranges from 10% to 88% in some chemical catalogs.

Frank,
Save yourself some hassle and give a yell to John atShooter's Solutions (http://www.shootersolutions.com/).
He has a concentrate that makes, like 25 gallons of parkerizing solution. I've tried his stuff and it works great! All you need is a tank and heat source.
He has a lot of other cool products there as well.
Good guy, good product.

Ditto on Shooters Solutions, the kit works great and is easy to use. Very good results.

Brownells sells everything you could possibly ever need and they include FREE instructions on Parkerizing with your order of chemicals. Ships UPS. They have a website. -FLC

Frank,
Atlanta Cutlery has the solution for both zinc and manganese. You can pick it up at their warehouse and save teh shipping charges. They have a web page, but I don't remember the URL. They are in the phone book.
BTW, if you haven't joined the GAFALERS, you need to. http://www.egroups.com/group/gafalers

This may sound dumb, but on a post about this on AK47dot net a couple people mentioned they ran into problems buying the chemicals separate, as some of them are ingredients for drugs, methamphetamines or something, and one gunsmith said his shop got raided as a drug lab. They said the chemical warehouse had to report large purchases of certain chemicals to the DEA, so it might be good buying all the stuff in a kit labled parkerizing solution!!I think it was the same guy was talking skitish about buying large money orders at the postoffice to send for gun parts, wanting to use a credit card with Magua for gun stuff, to try and not draw further attention to himself? That would really stink.I think brownells' park solution comes in a bucket nicly labled so. :D

A gear manufacturer next to where I work
parkerizes them when finished. He gets his
parkerizing solution from the automotive
supply house. They normally stock it for
camshaft grinders. If you look around , you
will find that many industrial manufacturers
use manganese phosphate finishes on quite a
few items.
